About Us
What is the MDHL?
The MDHL traces its origins back to right around the year 2000. At that time, there were really no avenues for Michigan High School hockey players to get the same exposure that AAA players received. This group changed that. With a hungry set of dedicated players, parents, and coaches, we set out to prove that you can play high school hockey and still make it to the next level. The success we have had over the years has proven just that. And what started as a group of tournament teams has transformed into a full-blown league (limited to 6 teams to avoid diluting the talent pool).
We exist solely to develop the best high school players in the state, and to provide them with scouting exposure through league and tournament play. Every player we have advanced has played high school hockey.
Junior, college, and professional scouts are on-hand every weekend of league play, and tournaments provide additional scouting opportunities against top-end opponents outside of MI-HS. Player development and advancement is our only goal.
The league provides players a great chance to prepare for their upcoming seasons and to develop their game. Through coaching, and by competing against the best players in the state on a weekly basis, players learn what it takes to become consistent and effective hockey players every time they step on the ice.
Since the program's inception, nearly 100 MDHL alumni have played professional hockey, over 300 have played NCAA hockey, and over 400 have played junior hockey.
One aspect of the MDHL that separates us from other programs is that we don’t stop promoting players when the MDHL season ends. We have a diverse group of well-connected coaches and scouts, and we will do whatever we can to help educate players, answer their questions, and find them a spot on a Junior team.
We care deeply about MI-HS hockey and take great pride in giving players who want to wear their school colors the same opportunities that were historically only provided to Tier I AAA players.
